A practical breakfast bar was the starting point for the Tough’s Contemporary kitchen.
Cabinetry - Heather fell in love with our Scope walnut from the Second nature range at the Perth Design Studio.
Worktops - 40mm laminate Astral Quartz from our elite range (Compliments the rich walnut really well). 60mm solid walnut circular breakfast bar to contrast the laminate.
Lighting - A combination of halogen cool lights & florescent clean white lights.
It was the quest for additional family space that made Heather Tough realise the dated cramped kitchen in the home they lived in for years would need to go. The poor layout and limited size really hit home as the family grew. The solution was to extend across the back of the house taking advantage of the stunning views and creating a galley style kitchen with a functional island and seating area.
Heather began to visit high street kitchen retailers but could not find a design that appealed to them. In the end inspiration came from a source further from home. Heather had received a brochure by post from the Perth Design Studio and decided to make an appointment to go over the proposed plans. Designer Colin Clyde suggested various designs for the open plan space such as curves on the island and a floating solid walnut breakfast – bar. After trying out a few designs the final layout was decided and materials finalised.
The building work all went smoothly apart from a small hiccup. After the extension was almost complete one of the piers supporting some of the structural steel work was landing right where one of our kitchen larder units planed to be. However after a few tweaks to the furniture at the factory work was able to progress quickly and without disruption or extra cost.
Now the kitchen is complete the couple are delighted with the end result. The fact that they can now eat, cook and entertain as a family has made all the building work and upheaval worthwhile. We love the finished kitchen says Heather. It’s even better than we imagined you could even say it has changed our lives.
